Gray Scale
You will be painting a gray scale using the paper that I have given you. You will use white and black paint as you try to match the value in the printed scale you were given.
You should have a paper with a gray scale printed on it.
You will try to match the value in this chart.

This is a student example of a painted gray scale.

You will be matching the value of gray shown in the gray scale paper you have.
Remember you will be starting light and building up to darker. YOU SHOULD ALWAYS START WITH THE LIGHT COLOR (VALUE) AND ADD THE DARK COLOR TO MAKE IT DARKER.
Use one of the paper plates as your pallet. Use one of the plastic spoons to get a spoon full of white paint and put it on the paper plate.
Next you will dip the tip only of your clean dry paint brush into the black paint. Mix this with the white paint on your pallet. Be sure to mix it completely. Check to make sure this is the same value as the first space on the gray scale, Number 10. Use your gray scale template paper to paint on. The value may change quickly if you add too much black paint. Do small steps so you do not go too dark too fast. Finish by gradually adding a small amount of black to the mixture to make the next value on the scale and paint it.
This is what the paper looks like for the gray scale.
