Art of the 19th Century
Art in the 19th Century consisted of Four styles of art
The four styles include Neo classic, Romantic, Impressionism, and post-Impressionist styles.
Neoclassic- Term for movement in the arts that draw inspiration from the "classical" art and culture of ancient Greece and Rome. The characteristics of Neo classic are the use of straight lines, smooth surface of painting, depicting of light, minimal use of color, clear and crisp definition of forms. Two Neoclassic arts are Jacques-Louis David and Dominique Ingres.




Romantic- Romantic art emphasized emotion, imagination, and the beauty of nature. It often depicted dramatic scenes and wild landscapes. The Characteristics of Romantic art Painting with a political message, expressed feelings that verged on the mystical.
Six Romantic Style Artists are Théodore Géricault, Francisco Goya, William Blake, Samuel Palmer, Philipp Otto Runge, Eugene Delacroix.






Impressionist- Impressionist art movement that originated by group of Paris based artists, Portrayed visual effects instead of detail. 5 Impressionist Style Artists are Camille Pissarro, Alfred Sisley, Claude Monet, August Renoir and Edgar Degas.





Post Impressionist- Post Impressionist art movement was a genre of paintings that rejected the naturalism of impressionism. 5 Post Impressionist Style artist are Georges Seutrat, Paul Gauguin, Henri de Toulouse Lautrec, Paul Cezanne and Vincent Van Gogh.
